Fetterman Israel Criticism After Gaza Comments

Speaking during an appearance on “Saturday in America,” Fetterman defended Israel’s actions. He said the country was fighting an existential war.
“There was never any genocide in Gaza,” Fetterman said. He also argued there should never be conditions placed on aid to Israel.
Democratic Party Split on Israel Policy
The Fetterman Israel criticism highlights a growing divide among Democrats over U.S. policy toward Israel. Several progressive lawmakers have called for restrictions on military aid following Israel’s war with Hamas.
However, Fetterman has repeatedly expressed strong support for Israel. He also criticized Democrats he believes have aligned with anti-Israel activists.
Fetterman referenced political commentator Hasan Piker in his remarks. He questioned why Democrats would align with individuals he described as pro-Hamas.
Fox News Digital reported that it contacted both Ocasio-Cortez and Piker for comment. Neither responded immediately.
Questions Raised About Iran Criticism
Fetterman also questioned why critics have focused heavily on Israel. He suggested some Democrats have not been equally vocal about actions by Iran.
According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency, more than 5,800 people had been killed during Iran’s crackdown on protests as of Jan. 25.
Fetterman said he did not recall hearing similar criticism of Iran from some lawmakers. Therefore, he questioned the emphasis placed on criticizing Israel.
The debate illustrates continuing disagreements over foreign policy priorities. Israel’s conflict with Hamas has intensified those divisions.
Fetterman Breaks With Party on Voter ID
Meanwhile, Fetterman recently broke with Democratic leadership on voter identification laws. He said he does not consider showing identification to vote unreasonable.
Fetterman argued that voter ID requirements should not automatically be viewed as voter suppression. This position differs from the views of some party leaders.
Senate leaders including Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries have criticized voter ID laws. They have described such policies as barriers to voting.
Fetterman referenced elections in Wisconsin as an example. Voters approved voter ID laws while also electing a liberal state Supreme Court justice.
Election Policy Debate in Washington
The discussion comes during a tense period in Washington over election policy and federal funding. Republicans are pushing proposals focused on election integrity.
President Donald Trump has supported the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. The measure would require documentary proof of citizenship to register for federal elections.
Trump has also urged Senate Republicans to revive the “standing filibuster.” That procedure requires senators to speak continuously to block legislation.
Meanwhile, the Munich Security Conference drew several Democratic figures. Attendees included Gretchen Whitmer, Ruben Gallego, and Mark Kelly.
